myene_01 (myene_01) wrote in reparo_elite,

English is my first langue, HOWEVER I am Dysgraphic (think Dyslexic, but with spelling not reading) so my spelling/grammar tends to be a bit odd.

1.Name: Mandy (or Amanda, as you have a Mandy already)

2. Age: 25

3. A) Have you read all of the Harry Potter books that are out currently?: Yes.
B) How many are there (excluding the two books done for charity)?: 7

C)Which one was your favorite? Explain.: Hmmm…Over all, I think I liked DH the best (yes, I know, me and 3 other people).: DH is my favorite for a few reasons. 1) The albino Peacocks of my Malfoy’s have given us jokes for years to come. 2) More Snape info (I’ve always liked the natural-good (chaotic-good?) charters. 3) I WAS RIGHT! It was Lily that influenced Snape, both good and bad. I had figured from book 3 onwards that it was Lily who both turned Snape to the dark side and saved him from it, and DH had it just about the way I thought it went. It was obvious to me that Lily played a huge part in the Snape/Potter dynamic. Think about it, what makes teenage boys do record amounts of stupid and some times deadly things? Girls.

4. A)If you attended Hogwarts, what would be your favorite subject?:

B) Why?:
I like the idea of those little spells that can move an object or cheer some one up. Being able to summon what I need would be a huge time saver. Shouting ‘Accio Dobby!’ Has been a secret whish of mine for ages.

5. If you could store one memory in a Pensieve, what would it be? Explain.:
I don’t think I would. I wouldn’t want other people to be able to have a poke around in my memories. I would learn Occlumency for the same reason.

6. If you were to face a boggart, what do you think it would it turn into? Explain why you think this.: I am of the Ron camp here. It would be a gigantic spider, most likely a black widow. Several times I’ve come with in moments of being bit by one of the little creepers, and only luck (and closed toe shoes) have kept me safe so far. I am afraid of them because when I was little I happened to catch part of a documentary on deadly spiders, and what you see when you 5 tends to stick with you.

7. What do you think you would you see in the Mirror of Erised?:
Not sure. Me winning the Bancroft Prize (think Nobel Laureate but for History) would be great. I am a History major (and future Historian) so that would work. But then again, I am an Ancient History major and the Bancroft is for American History, which I am unlikely to go into. So another option would be my own exhibit(s) at the Smithsonian.

8. Would you have put your name in the Goblet of Fire? Explain your reasoning.:
No.Would the money be nice? Yes. Would the fame be nice? Yes. I could use both the money and fame in my research (using the money to go to places or to buy artifacts in the black market, and the fame to get money/sponsorship/donated artifacts). But being dead, even a famous dead, wouldn’t help any.
9. A)Would you use an Unforgivable Curse, and if so, under what circumstances would you use an Unforgivable curse?: Yes.I would use Imperio if I needed to save someone by controlling them (using it to stop someone from jumping off a bridge, or to make a delirious person take medicine, or to stop using a drug). I would also be willing to use Avada Kedavra in defense of myself or someone else. Imperio would also be an option for self defense for myself or others. Or to put down an animal or to give mercy to some one with a terminal disease, or a terminal, but painful, wound.

B)Why?: Because I think that any of the above actions would be the right thing to do. Someone with a chemical imbalance wouldn’t be in their right mind and should be helped. Someone who is
delirious or high as a kite is not able to help themselves, so I see no harm in helping them do what they would if they could. I also see no issue in preventing myself or another in being harmed, and while I would prefer not to kill some one, If it is them or me/defenseless person, it will be them.
I am also watching some one who is like a father to me die by inches from MS. He was once a strong, dignified man, who worked with his hands and had homespun advice for any situation. Currently he can hardly walk, doesn’t remember what you said to him 5 min ago, and can just barely hold a fork or spoon. His entire self is slipping away from him, and if he asked for help I think I would do so. I would hate to do it, but I think people have the right to die with dignity.

10. Put the following words in order of importance to you: Adventurous, Ardent, Acute, Crafty, Benevolent, Accommodating, Burlesque, Drive. Please explain your top three and the one you place last.:
Crafty, Ardent, Drive, Adventurous, Burlesque, Benevolent, Accommodating, Acute.
I think that being ‘Crafty’ (which to me means creative), ‘Ardent’ (sticking to something) and having ‘Drive’ (the want to do something) are the most important things. To do something in life you have to first think of it (Crafty), then you have to want to do it (Drive) and you have to keep doing it, even if it is hard (Ardent). Crafty also come into play by knowing when something is a bad idea and putting it to rest (like New Coke). I put Acute last because I do not see how it fits into the rest of the words. To me Acute means small, where as the other words reference personality traits, so I do not see how it fits in.

11. Please follow this link. Find your zodiac on the list and copy and paste the following paragraph in this question. After doing so, please bold which qualities you feel describe you and strike out the qualities that do not. You may add an explanation if you wish afterword.:
Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Intellectual. Rational. Curious. Idealistic. Unemotional. Animated. Uninvolved. Conceptual. Devoid of feeling. Very sensitive. Needs to communicate. Social. Objective. Impersonal. Distant. Opinionated. Theoretical. Abstract. Needs to socialise. Needs to share ideas. Talkers and communicator. Always moving and changing. Can become impractical in their actions and beliefs. Superficial. Hate to be restricted. Freedom of thought.
I am not unemotional so much as I am reserved. Otherwise these words fit me well enough, but as a cusp (Aquarius/Capricorn) who is almost direct on the line for the day and time I was born, I also have traits in the Earth element. (Cautious. Sensual. Solid. Purposeful. Practical. Introvert. Appreciation of food, touch, etc. Strong survival instinct. Persistent. Not much one for the limelight. Self-protectivene, and acquisitive.)

12. What single quality do you feel goes the furthest in defining who you are? Explain why.: My mind. I think before I act. In fact, I spend a lot of time just thinking on any number of things, some of them serious, some of them not. As a Historian I will rely on my ability to think and analyze everyday. But I also think of silly things, like different ways to make bubble wrap (my current favorite idea being an army of gnomes with hundreds of little straws, blowing soap bubbles then trapping them in the plastic.

13. What makes a person deserving of your respect?: The way they act. If you give me respect, if you treat others with respect (even people you dislike) you are worthy of respect. If you treat me well, but treat others badly, you don’t deserve respect.

14. What character from the series do you most relate to? Explain.: I think I am most like Luna in some ways (odd, but smart, once you understand me, willing to believe in more that can be seen, eclectic sense of style) but I also have traits of Snape in me (loner, some times grumpy, meticulous, protective of what is mine). So I guess I am most like the love child of Luna and Snape. (Lunape? Snuna? Luevers? Sevna?)

15. Please describe the four canon houses in your own words.:

Gryffindor: Brave to the point of stupidity. Tending to jump to conclusions and fierce in what they believe. Gryffindor’s remind me of Kenders from the Dragonlance books. I can easily see Godric turning to his friends and saying “Ok, lets run into the dark cave and see what is in it!” while throwing up light and exploration charms around the cave.

I am not saying that the Gryffindors and stupidly brave to be mean, but I honestly do not think that they think before doing things. Well the book Gryffindors do tend to rush in with out thinking (except for Hermonie). Door with big scary dog on top of it? Lets jump in! Creepy bathroom tunnel near known death location of a student? Lets jump down it! Big vicious dog drags someone under the strange tree that likes to whack people? Lets follow! Book 4 did have some planing, but much of it last min. Book 5 had the fake kid-napping, where they rushed in practically blind. Book 6 was more Albus planed events, so that was ok. Book 7 had a great deal of rushing in where dragons fear to tread (robbing banks, diving into the freezing deep pond, going into the forest w/o even leaving a note). There is an old, and often different, quote; “God protects fools and Children”. In the Potterverse, I expect that quote is “Merlin protects fools, children, and Gryffindors”

Hufflepuff: I think the Hufflepuff’s are also brave, but in an understated way (the power behind the scenes). Loyal to their friends, even who they get a stupid attack. More likely to do the hard job despite the hardships, and do the job well. Less likely to rush in, more likely to plan their way in. I can see Helga grabbing Godric’s arm as he tries to rush into the cave and telling him to wait a moment so they could get a few torches, a rope, and remembering her defensive spells.

Ravenclaw: Like the Hufflepuff’s they like to plan. The difference is they take planning to a new level. Not only would they check out a few books on their plan, but also get examples of things they would need so they could practice using them ahead of time, and so they could see examples of what they could encounter. Then, after learning what they could from subject books and practical examples, they would implement their plan. I can see Rowena joining Helga in calling for research, but also calling for examples of different ropes to determine the best kind, as well as torches of different material, appropriate clothing, and checking the cave mouth for any clues about what could be inside, and talking to Salazar about possibly useful spells.
Slytherin: Always thinking of different using than the obvious for items around them. Also great collectors of items, gathering things not only to learn about them, but how they can use them in typical and inventive ways. Also tending to do research, but again doing research not only into the typical use but into different ones. Some of those new ways would be as weapons. While Helga and Rowena are holding Godric back and planning the cave exploration, Salazar would be looking around for items to transfigure into weapons to protect themselves the wyvern that is in the cave (he saw the claw marks that Godric ignored and that the women missed trying to stop him) and for plants that are natural poisons that they can put on the weapons. All the while thinking up aggressive spells with Rowena.

16. What qualities do you possess from each of the four houses (Please try choosing one from each)?:
Gryffindor: Tending to want to explore. Hufflepuff: Understated power. Ravenclaw: Research, research, research! Slytherin: Thinking up new ways to use old items.

17. What hybrid house do you think you would be wrong to be put in, and why?: Any of the Hufflepuff houses. I just do not connect with my inner ‘puff. I expects that is because the 3 biggest Hufflepuff charters we saw were not all that major. Sprout we only saw as a teacher, and not that much. Cedric’s only reason for life seams to be as the one who was killed in the first ‘battle’ of Voldewar II. Tonks, while very cool, was not seen all that much. We saw her escort Harry, twice. We saw her pine after Lupin, have a baby, then die. All in all, the Hufflepuffs seam to be background in the books, so I do not have anyone to connect with.

18. A) If you could change one thing about yourself, would you?: No, I like me. If I change something, I wouldn’t be me. Am I perfect? No, but I learn from my Imperfections.

B) What would it be if you did?: Er, my spelling I guess.

C) Why?: Would be easier to write then.

19. How did you find us? If it was from a post say where and who posted it (If possible, please leave a link to the actual post you saw.): I saw an advert in another community, book marked the reparo_elite site, then forgot about you for a week. I don’t remember anymore in which other community I saw you advertise.

20. Have you applied before? If so, can you please leave a link to your last application?: Nope.

21. A) Why should we accept you?: Because I am awesome! Ok, really, because I think I am a creative and unique person that could add a lot to your community. I have a good sense of humor and like to explore new things.

B) What makes you different than the other applicants we’re reviewing after you?:  I don’t know because I haven’t seen those apps. But I do think I am an unique person.

22. How many hours weekly do you expect to be able to put into this community?: Well, I check all my communities daily. How long depends on what I would do any given day. I do make Icons, and that can take a long time.

23. Please leave some way of communication (either e-mail or AIM) here. If you do not feel confortable leaving such information open to the public, please e-mail me at with the said information, and please state who you are also (meaning giving me your name and LJ name). If you are accepted, this information will be given to your future HoH, so they can contact you if needed.: Mandy, Myene_01 (LJ), VulcanKid1701 (AIM)

24. If you are sorted into a House that does not have an Head of House, would you be interested in being one?: Yes.
